This chip will allow you to upgrade your Roland SRV-2000 to the latest firmware OS version, version 1.5. Version 1.5 adds new features and fixes bugs in previous versions.
Warning #1 - Installation of this kit requires soldering of a jumper wire. Please only attempt if you have confidence in your soldering skills. Incorrect soldering techniques can damage your board.
Warning #2 - Chip must be installed in the correct orientation. Installing backwards may damage the chip and your device.
Status Check - Version 1.5 of the firmware makes use just one 27256 EPROM chip. Older versions use 2x smaller 27128 chips. You can open your SRV-2000 to see if it has one chip or two. This will tell you if you already have v1.5 or an older firmware.
1. Shut down your Roland and disconnect power
2. Carefully open the outer and inner covers to expose the circuit board shown in the pictures that holds the EPROMs.
3. Find chips IC307 and IC308 as shown in the pictures. If you have one chip, you are likely already at v1.5 and don't need this upgrade. If you have 2 chips, you can upgrade to v1.5, but also you'll need to solder in a jumper wire so your board knows to expect only the single v1.5 chip. (Note - If anyone knows of an easier way to check firmware version, please message me!)
Installation
1. Complete steps 1-3 above.
2. Note the notch orientation of your EPROMs.
Recommended - Take a picture too, just in case you forget!
4. Pull both IC307 and IC308 straight out with the chip puller tool ensuring not to bend any pins. Set old chips aside.
5. Install the new chip in IC308 ensuring you have the notch pointing in the same direction. IC307 should be left empty.
Note - You may need to carefully bend the chip legs slightly to align them with the socket holes.
6. Locate jumpers J301 and J302
J301 (27256) - You need to solder a jumper wire here so board can read a single 27256 chip
J302 (27128x2) - You need to clip this wire so board no longer tries to read 2x 27128 chips.
6. Install J301 Jumper wire - A wire needs to be soldered in place between the two holes of J301. For simpler installation, I recommend installing and soldering the wire right from the top, but you can also remove the board and solder from below if you prefer.
7. Reinstall the covers, power up, and enjoy
