This is an upgrade kit to bring your vintage Hammond XB-2 organ up to the latest software release which is version 2.0. The kit includes 2x EPROM chips that are installed in sockets 16 and 17 as well as a chip puller tool.
After installing these chips, the XB-2 should display the version number on its LCD display during startup. The original software not display version info, so if you do not see a version number on startup, you are likely still running version 1.
Installation Instructions
1. Power down your XB-2 and unplug it
2. Take the top off your XB-2
3. Locate chips IC16 and IC17, (see location in picture)
4. Note the orientation of the notch on the end of these chips and remember which one is 16 and which is 17. It might be a good idea to take a picture of your board before you proceed further.
5. Pull the old chips strait out using the chip puller. Ensure you pull strait so you don't bend or break the pins.
6. Install the new chips into the sockets ensuring the notches are facing in the same direction. Pins may need to be bent slightly in or out to align with your chip socket.
7. Reinstall the XB-2 cover, power it up, and look for the version number on start up. Enjoy!
